Lamoura
Lamoura
is a small village, with 432 residents, with houses built in the typical
architectural style of the Haut Jura. This village has an altitude climbing
from 1,156 metres to its highest point of 1,495 metres at the Crêt
Pela. It is part of the Les Rousses resort, which is also known as the
Four Villages Resort (Station aux quatre villages). A bus service links
the resort with the city of St Claude.
Transjurassienne,
the famous cross-country ski race, begins near a small lake in Lamoura.
It is an annual event which attracts many skilled competitors. The course
is 76 kilometres long.
You
will find many holiday cottages in Lamoura, and everything you need, including
a grocery shop, restaurants, hotels, bakery, sports and souvenir shops,
butchers, pharmacy, and medical personnel. There is also a day-care centre
for the enjoyment of the children.
There
are leisure activities for all seasons such as a visit to the Musée
du Lapidaire or to the swimming pool which is open all year long at the
VVL (village vacances de Lamoura, located at the Hameau of the Combe du
Lac). Local handcrafts include pottery and the use of Galalith stone and
horn.
In winter,
you can learn to ski at the Ecole de Ski. You can practice your downhill
skiing at the Les Rousses resort which provides 6 lifts and 3 small lifts
for beginners. For those who prefer cross-country skiing, 80 km of trails
are available for your use. For those who enjoy skiing at night there
is a well-lit trail located in the centre of the village. Or you may prefer
a good walk or perhaps to try your hand at the local snowshoe rides?
In summer,
you can fish on the well-stocked lake or in the nearby rivers. You can
also play tennis or petanque, or go for a hike or a mountain bike ride
in the surrounding and peaceful countryside.
Many
other activities are available at the resort, so please don't hesitate
to come and discover our village and our beautiful region. We are certain
you will be enchanted and happy to come again. We look forward to seeing
you soon.
